Apple: Credit Suisse Cuts ‘09 iPhone, Mac, iPod Unit Forecast; Trims EPS Estimate; Cuts Target

So here’s the one thing that they never really say on Apple ’s (AAPL) brilliant, “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” ads: at a basic level, a Mac actually IS a PC. A spiffier looking PC, sure, and a PC that runs a more appealing operating system, but still at the end of the day it is box with a screen and chips inside and a keyboard and software used to do work and connect to the Internet. I say this not to start a philosophical discussion about which is better, but only as prelude to noting a research piece by Credit Suisse’s Bill Shope , who today cut FY 2009 estimates on Apple to reflect his firm’s new, lower outlook for PC unit demand. Credit Suisse now sees 2009 PC units down 4.7%; previously, they had been looking for 4.9% unit growth. (He also cut numbers today on Dell .)
