Apple (AAPL) is apparently suffering some delays on getting its new 17-inch MacBook Pro laptops out the door. Tech blog ArsTechnica says it is hearing from readers that the new MacBooks, which Phil Schiller told the Apple faithful at Macworld would ship by the end of January, now appears unlikely to ship until late this month or into March.
According to the post, “Apple has also begun dishing out the bad news to customers in an e-mail with the message ‘Wrapping up the new 17-inch MacBook Pro is taking a few days longer than we projected. As a result, we will be unable to ship your 17-inch MacBook Pro until February 19, 2009.’”
Ars Technica says that a visit to some Apple discussion threats finds “more disappointed would-be owners.” A check of Apple’s online store confirms that it now also says “3-4 weeks.”
