Apple Reportedly In Talks On iPhone For Verizon
Apple (AAPL) has been holding talks about developing a version of the iPhone for Verizon (VZ) with the goal of introducing the device next year, according to USA Today , which cites “people familiar with the situation.” The piece notes that this would be the first version of the phone for a CDMA-based wireless network.
The story said the two companies entered into “high-level” discussions a few months ago, “when Steve Jobs was overseeing day-to-day business.” While Jobs is on medical leave until the end of June, the sources say that conversations are continuing.
AT&T (T) has exclusive rights to the iPhone until sometime in 2010. The theory seems to be that the company would offer versions of the phone for both carriers.
