Apple: UBS Sees 4GB iPhone Coming

Is Apple (AAPL) going to launch a 4GB version of the iPhone? In a research note this morning, UBS analyst Maynard Um says that “checks indicate” a new 4GB iPhone may be increasing the iPhone build rate. It’s not clear if he expects a 4GB version of the current edition of the iPhone, or if he’s referring to the much - discussed , possibly mythical, iPhone Nano. In any case, Um writes that iPhone unit sales for the fiscal first quarter ended December could come in below his current 5 million unit estimate, but that the build rate could be as high as 7 million as it ramps up the lower capacity version of the phone. (I would note that there were rumors late last year that Apple would sell a 4 GB version of the phone in Wal-Mart stores; while Apple did cut a deal to sell phones at Wal-Mart, they didn’t announce a 4GB version of the phone.) Um, who has a Neutral rating on the stock, expects revenue for the quarter to be in line with guidance of $9 billion to $10 ... (link)
