ASUS to launch 3G Google Android smartphone?

The Google Android G1 hits the UK today, so what better time to burst your bubble with news of another incoming Android handset - this time from ASUS. Yes, taking time out from creating a never-ending succession of Eee clones, ASUS plans to use the Android platform for a 3G smartphone from 2009, initially launching in its native Taiwan before introducing 'customised' models for the world market. So your G1 has probably got around six months of exclusivity. ASUS already produces smartphones, but with Windows Mobile 6 as its operating system. We were certainly impressed with the recently-launched P552w (pictured), so hopes are high - don't let us down ASUS. And don't call it an Eee phone, whatever you do. Link: ASUS (via Idealo (link)
