AT&T ’s Ralph De La Vega , who runs the company’s mobility and consumer businesses, is being interviewed this morning at the Web 2.0 Summit by TechCrunch editor Michael Arrington . He notes that the company today acquired Wayport, a WiFi hotspot operator, for $275 million in cash. They also announced new faster speeds for U-verse.
On Google’s Android platform: We like that the platform is open in the second phase; good opportunity for application providers. First version is mostly Google apps.
On U-verse: Offers IP television; offers broadband up to 18 MB/sec; also wirelessly wire your house. Most advanced telecom experience in the U.S., he says.
