Canon EOS 500D shoots HD video with 15-MP lens

Canon has launched a new addition to its line of entry-level D-SLRs. The EOS 500D is the kind of camera that you can actually afford, giving you serious photography power but without forcing you to get a second job trailing drunken celebs through Camden’s gutters.   For megapixel whores, the Canon EOS 500D comes with 15.1 of the highly detailed beauties, but actually it’s moving images that are drawing the most attention. This weighty snapper will shoot up to 1080p video and output footage through an HDMI port.   Other features include a 3” LCD screen, 3.4 frames per second burst shooting, 9-point auto focus and the latest DIGIC 4 processor found in many of Canon’s latest DSLRs.   Almost the only noticeable sign of EOS 500D’s entry level status is in the 1080p recording. This lingers at a less than perfect 24 frames per second. Slip it down to a still-highly viewable 720p, however, and you’ll get a healthy 30 frames per second.    ... (link)
