CES 2009 Video: Palm Pre smartphone hands-on

 
After failing into virtual oblivion in recent years, the launch of this fantastic smartphone from PDA pioneers, Palm was one of the highlights of this year's CES.   | See the Palm Pre hands-on gallery from CES   Who'd have thunk it? With the launch of the Pre, Palm has thrown down the gauntlet to not just Apple, but RIM and Google Android with its brand new smartphone platform, that may turn out to be as good as anything we've seen in the field.   The touchscreen appears imperious, with the brand new Web OS user interface a real breath of fresh air. There's even a slide-out QWERTY keyboard to lure those loyal BlackBerry patrons towards the Palm stable.   There's plenty of innovation, including the convergence of email, text and IM into one handy screen, a pop up applications menu, magnetic charging and also Palm's own interpretation of Apple's multi-touch software.   We were treated to a  full demo of this corking new handset in Las Vegas so have ...
