Chumby show always-online digital photo frame widgets at CES 2009

It might be one of the silliest names we’ve come across for a while, but Chumby aren’t messing about in 2009. Keen to jump on the Widget bandwagon, they’re set to produce a range of digital photo frames – both in-house and with third party developers such as Samsung – enabled with their own breed of always-on internet widgets. The idea is simple – a range of devices that are updated with any of 1000 widgets from 30 categories instantly all day; much like RSS feeds. The categories range form weather and news, to entertainment and cooking. Chumby CEO Stephen Tomlin says: "Chumby offers a complete solution for delivering the best of the Internet to consumer devices, and we are delighted to reveal our plans to the consumer electronics industry for the first time at CES." There’s no word on a price for the pictured Chumby frames, but the service itself will be free out of the box – subject to a working Wifi connection.    ... (link)
