Still pondering a console purchase? Or perhaps you just want the full set? Either way, it should be cheaper to pick one up from April 2009 - unless you want a Nintendo Wii.
That's the prediction of games analyst Michael Pachter, who is claiming that Sony will knock down the price of the 80GB PS3 in the US from $399 to $299 in April, with the Xbox 360 Pro will hit $249 around the same time. It's all down to demand, with Sony lagging behind Microsoft in sales by around 2:1 - and neither able to touch the Nintendo Wii, which shifted 3.25 million units in the US in December alone. Wii price cut? Not a hope while it's still flying off the shelves.
Obviously all that is based around the US market, but as you might have guessed, a cut in one territory is almost certain to lead to a drop elsewhere. Which could mean a drop for the PS3 from £299 to £249 in the very near future - and a new lease of life in the UK.
