Dell has just announced its new Wasabi printer range. Wasabi is a portable, pocket-sized photo printers, that produce cute little 2” x 3” photos with adhesive backs. But what has a delicious Japanese root spice got to do with photo printing, you ask? We’ve no idea whatsoever, but you’ll probably recognise the name once the adverts start appearing.
Wasabi has more than an obscure branding to its name though. These are part of the new breed of ink-less printers, which use a technology called Zero-Ink, or ZINK. ZINK eschews old-school cartridges in favour of a clever paper, which contains dye crystals that bring out the appropriate colours when heated by the printer.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because the once king of instant photo printing, Polaroid, has a nearly identical product on the market: the PoGo printer.
