Apple is rapidly becoming the smartphone king, with sales figures showing 6.9 million iPhones sold out of a worldwide total of 39.9 million between July and September. But all could soon change.
According to market data company Canalys, Apple has a 17 per cent market share, just behind market leader Nokia (18.9 percent). The reason? Well, the launch of the iPhone 3G just might have something to do with it, not to mention Apple's continued worldwide expansion. We haven't forgotten BlackBerry - with sales of 6.1 million, it comes in third with 15.3 per cent of the market. But we suspect RIM is quietly confident of a comeback, with the Bold, Storm, Pearl Flip and Javelin covering all bases before Christmas.
The Storm in particular (which is unboxed right here ) should make a severe dent in Apple's balance sheet, not least because it's a looker for the iPhone, but with an operating system loved and trusted by the corporate world. It just might be a good time to haggle for a new phone ...
