Not exactly an iPod dock and not exactly a remote control, the Marantz IS301 is a bit of both.
Well actually, it's a lot of both. For a start, it's an audiophile dock, offering full access to your iPod or iPhone screen, controls and most importantly, digital tracks. But as it's also offered with a compact Bluetooth (A2DP) module, you can fire those tunes over to your nearest high-end audio set-up via a separate receiver that plugs into the back of your hi-fi. Which means you can carry your iPod around and use it as an audio remote control, impressing your gadget-loving mates no end.
Docking in the conventional way also offers the, charging, USB connectivity and plenty of additional audio and video outputs. Available from January 2009, it retails for £219.90.
