ASUS Eee PC 901
It was the ASUS' Eee PC that kicked off this whole mini netbook malarkey when it was originally introduced at COMPUTEX Taipei 2007 - originally designed as a low-cost educational computer and inspired by the worthy-but-poorly-managed 'One Laptop Per Child' campaign.
Despite being pitched as a cheap-as-chips machine for schools, ASUS soon realised it had created a whole new market, bunged some faster Intel Atom chips in the machines and began to offer Eees with the Windows XP operating systems (in addition to the original Linux).
