Nokia has expressed surprise at the staggering price tag placed on its upcoming Nokia N97 don’t-call-it-a-smartphone by online retailer Expansys . The portable computing specialist has taken a stab at a possible price and release date for the N97 – which may be one of the only places to get the handset with Skype pre-installed .
Nokia, however, has strongly refuted the £689.99 (inc. VAT) price placed on the pre-order page . One spokesperson described it as “simply outrageous”. We’re assuming then that it’s outrageous in the upward direction, and not that Expansys is giving away a criminally cheap deal in these cash strapped times.
At nearly seven hundred quid, we can’t see too many people rushing to pre-order it, even if it does turn out to be the “most powerful, multi-sensory mobile computer in existence” as promised. A T-Mobile G1 Android handset can be picked up for £320, while Nokia’s current N Series ...
