Nvidia (NVDA) plans to cut prices in the discrete graphics card market in an effort to stem further share losses to rival Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) , according to DigiTimes . The Taiwan-based tech news site attributed the story to “sources at graphics card makers.”
The story noted that AMD had about 40% of the market in the third quarter, and “anticipates taking 50% of the market” after cutting prices for its ATI Radeon HD 4000 series of products. DigiTimes says Nvidia has countered with price cuts on its GeForce GTX 200, 9800 GT and 9600 GT lines.
NVDA today is down 64 cents, or 8.1%, to $7.30.
