What do you do when you've backed the wrong side in the short-lived high-def war? Easy - get in with the winners as soon as you can.
Yes, Onkyo has put its support of HD DVD down to (bad) experience, jumping in with Blu-ray with the launch of the DV-BD606. And it's pretty standard stuff - that utilitarian casing is unlikely to win any design awards for a start. But all the essentials are covered, including full 1080p resolution, a refresh rate of up to 24fps (if the rest of your kit supports it), DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD sound , HDMI 1.3a and upscaling of all your old DVDs.
On the downside, it only packs Blu-ray Profile 1.1 for accessing bonus material and picture-in-picture rather than the web-friendly Profile 2.0, but you can't have everything. And at a price of £399, you wouldn't expect everything either.
