Paid apps come to jailbroken iPhone store
Cydia, the unofficial software installer for jailbroken iPhones, is recognised as one of the best places to pick up unauthorised applications for Apple’s smartphone. Now Cydia creator, Jay Freeman, is taking the software a step further in its mimicry of the iTunes App Store – Cydia is giving jailbreak developers the chance to sell their wares for real money.
Cydia will benefit from being able to sell all the Apps that fall foul of Apple’s confusing approval process. One company is already considering selling adult games for the iPhone. We can safely assume there’s a myriad of other pornographic possibilities in this kind of service, but the lure of cash could significantly increase the number and quality of developers writing jailbreak software too.
Freeman says that he’ll charge no more commission than Apple does for its official service, but we have absolutely no doubt that Apple’s ever-vigilant legal team will take a very dim view of ...
