PC Vendors Had A Miserable Q4, Industry Analysts Say

 
You will not be shocked to learn that the latest data suggests the PC industry had a rotten Q4. Still, the number are fairly discouraging. Gartner this afternoon reports that Q4 worldwide PC shipments were up just 1.1% from a year earlier, the slowest growth since 2002. In the U.S., PC shipments fell 10%, for the worst quarter since 2001. Here’s Gartner’s list of the five leading PC vendors for Q4: Hewlett-Packard (HPQ); 19.1% share; units up 3.5%. Dell (DELL): 13.2% share; units down 5.9%. Acer , 12.3%, units up 31.1% Lenovo , 7.1% share, units down 4.5% Toshiba , 4.7%, units up 20.7% In the U.S. market, Dell held the leading share, at 28.6% to HP’s 27.5%. But Dell’s U.S. shipments fell 16.4%, while HP fell just 3.4%. Acer took 15.2% of the U.S. market, and increased units by 55.4%, as the netbook market took off.
