Philips launches Aurea II and first LED-backlit LCD TV

Not one for memorable product names, Philips has launched the 42PFL9803H LCD TV. Just as well it has a notable selling point, and that the Aurea II, also announced today, it slightly more memorable. Talking of light, Philips has also updated its Aurea LCD to the Aurea II. Fans of the glowing box will get more of the same, but from a more compact frame in non-reflective glass. And with an increased number of LEDs, the colours produced on the border are a closer match to what's on the screen. What does that mean in practice? Well, according to Philips, less eye strain and a 'perceived improvement' in contrast and picture quality. The 42-inch TV will retail from this month for £2,499. Link: Philips (link)
