There’s still a week to go before we tuck into our turkeys and brussel sprouts, but speculation about the outcome of this year’s Christmas Console battle is running rife. Although it’s going to be a while before we see official figures for the complete festive period, there’s a common consensus emerging: the PS3 is being handed is shiny black bottom.
According to GfK Chart-Track data, via Eurogamer , the PS3 is still being beaten by Xbox 360 in Europe, to the tune of 1m units. That’s not necessarily a big deal; Sony’s console was late to the next-gen scene, giving Microsoft a full 15 months to capitalise on its first mover advantage. If anything, it should be further ahead.
However, Sony did claim earlier in the year that it had overtaken Microsoft’s install base. Eyebrows were raised at the time, but the figures didn’t seem too hard to believe, given Europe’s historic preference of Sony over Microsoft, especially ...
