RIM ships 50 Millionth BlackBerry

 
Just a few years back, buying a BlackBerry was a serious 'no no' unless you were a 24-hour workaholic. But that's certainly not the case today, with the current crop of BlackBerry devices able to feed both your work and play needs. And we've snapped them up in the millions. Indeed, maker RIM has announced that the 50 Millionth BlackBerry has now sold, with  6.7 million of those devices shipping in just the last quarter. You could say they're going down a Storm. According to RIM, there are  21 million active BlackBerry subscribers, using three petabytes of traffic per month. As we've never heard of a 'petabyte' before, we'll presume that's a lot of zeros (actually, we've just checked, it's 15). And it's not just email flying around - over 7 million users have the Facebook application on their handset. And with a rather cool Twitter application available, your average BB user is probably networking (or should that be not working) rather than chasing up the minutes of yesterday's ... (link)
