Sony Rolly to get Bluetooth remote control update
Sony is planning a small but interesting update to its unique Rolly MP3 player. Next month, Japanese Rolly buyers will be able to get a version with complete Bluetooth controls, allowing them to make Rolly dance and spin however they like, directed via their mobile phones.
Sony's Rolly has always been a strange beast. It's an MP3 player, but it has no 3.5mm output. It gyrates around and flashes its LEDs, but the tiny internal speakers aren't really enough to make it a viable standalone speaker system. So it's just a toy - the musical equivalent of a somersaulting robot puppy - which goes through a range of dance moves in tune to whatever music is being played from its internal flash drive or being streamed over A2DP Bluetooth.
Bluetooth RC makes it a lot more appealing for us though. Being able to remotely guide the Rolly on a covert excursion across the office desks to blast forth a barrage of Kraftwerk with accompanying robotic dance moves at an unsuspecting co-worker, is definitely ...
