Sony showcases the new OLED NWZ-X1000 touchscreen Walkman at CES

One year on from the OLED TV-filled CES 2008, and it looks like the power-saving tech is here to stay.   Case in point at this year’s show is Sony’s beautiful new MP3 player, the NWZ-X1000, whose gaping screen-hole has been lovingly filled with a 3-inch OLED number. OLED’s chief benefits are brighter, more bountiful colours and – as is crucial for mobile devices – less power consumption than glutonous LED displays.   The X1000 comes in 16 and 32GB flavours, and all feature Wifi and noise-cancellation technology.   As well as being fully touch screen ( as was rumoured ), there are an assortment of pocket-friendly tactile buttons on the base and sides – something sadly lacking from its biggest rival the iPod Touch. There’s no word on price at the moment, but we’ll have more soon. We’re hoping Sony won’t shoot themselves in the foot on pricing as they have done in the past with its previous iPod rivals.    ...
