Sony Shutting Pittsburgh TV Unit; 560 Jobs Affected

 
Sony (SNE) Electronics, which earlier said it will cut 8,000 jobs and close 10% of its worldwide manufacturing sites , this afternoon announced it will be shutting its Pittsburgh Technology Center, in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, about 35 miles east of Pittsburgh. The facility employs 560 people. Sony said the shutdown of unit will take place over the next 16 months, starting in February with its LCD TV manufacturing line. Most of the employees at the site are involved with LCD television production, repair and logistics. The company said North American demand will be handled by its facilities in Baja, Mexico. (link)
