Tessera Technologies (TSRA) shares are sharply higher in after hours trading after the company won a key case before the U.S. International Trade Commission .
In a ruling issued this afternoon , the ITC overruled an administrative law judge decision and found that a group of semiconductor companies - Spansion (SPSNQ.PK) , Qualcomm (QCOM) , Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) unit ATI, Motorola (MOT) , STMicro (STM) and Freescale - have violated several Tessera patents. The ITC said its investigation is now terminated. The original decision had found no violations.
The ITC issued a limited exclusion order prohibiting the importation of semiconductor chips that infringe several Tessera patents. The Commission issued cease-and-desist orders concerning violations of the patents to Motorola, Qualcomm, Freescale and Spansion.
In late trading, TSRA is up $2.89, or 17.4%, to $19.50; the stock rose $1 in the regular session.
