Lenovo Buys Back Handset Business

Lenovo Group (LNVGY.PK) this morning said it is repurchasing Lenovo Mobile Communication Technology from Hony Capital , a unit of Legend Holdings , for $200 million in cash and stock. The company said the announcement signals that the company “is gearing up its efforts in the burgeoning mobile Internet market in China.” Lenovo Mobile ranks #3 in China’s mobile handset market overall, and is the leading domestic brand, the company said. The company had divested the business in March 2008 to focus on the core PC business. But the times, they are a-changin’.
