Tivo Q3 Tops Guidance; Q4 Rev View Light

TiVo (TIVO) this afternoon posted revenue for its fiscal third quarter of $47.1 million, consistent with guidance of $46 million to $48 million. Net loss of $6.7 million was smaller than the company’s forecast of a loss of $8 million to $10 million. Adjusted EBITDA was positive $2.1 million, ahead of the company’s forecast of break even to a loss of 2 million. Gross adds for company-owned subscribers came to 34,000, up from 31,000 in Q2, but down from 44,000 a year ago. Churn was 1.7%, up from 1.5% in Q2, and 1.4% a year ago. Net company-owned subs were down 45,000. Subscriber acquisition costs came $171, up from $139 a year ago, and about flat with $172 in Q2. For Q4, the company sees revenue of $43 million to $45 million, a loss of $13 million to $15 million, and an adjusted EBITDA loss of $5 million to $7 million. TiVo To License Viewing Data To Google; Could A Bigger Deal Follow?

TiVo (TIVO) this morning unveiled a deal to license television viewing data to Google (GOOG) to be used in the Google TV Ads platform. Terms were not disclosed. The announcement said Google TV ads will be able to draw on anonymous second-by-second DVR viewing data from stand-alone subscribers “to substantially enhance the measurement and accountability of ad impressions for inventory sold using the Google TV Ads auction-based system.” The TiVo sample covers digital cable, analog cable, satellite, telecom and over-the-air TV in line and time-shifted viewing. Meanwhile, in the sketchy speculation category, Briefing.com writes that it is hearing that a “sell-side shop” - they don’t say which one, and I haven’t figured it out so far - thinks TiVo could now be a takeover target for Google.
