Droid Sales and the Android Explosion
    (PC World)

PC World - The Motorola Droid is doing more than just bashing the iPhone -- it's also smashing the ceiling when it comes to mainstream Android appeal. A full 250,000 people snatched up Droids during the phone's first week in stores, some newly released data suggests. That's four times the number of launch-week sales estimated for the myTouch 3G, which had previously been considered the fastest-selling Android device.

Find more top gadget news, videos, and blogs on GadgetBlips: Phones, Android, Motorola

Deathmatch: Motorola Droid versus iPhone
    (InfoWorld)

InfoWorld - Here we go again: Another swaggering company claims to have the iPhone killer. This time, it's Motorola and Verizon Wireless, with the Droid. You've seen the "Droid does" campaign, but let's cut to the chase: The Motorola Droid does not do that much. It's a real letdown after all the hype, with some amazingly dumb design decisions, such as lack of a multitouch screen (no gesture support) and a hard-to-use keyboard.

Find more top gadget news, videos, and blogs on GadgetBlips: Phones, Motorola, Verizon, iPhone

Motorola (MOT) is looking for buyers for its home and network mobility division, which includes the company’s cable set-top box business, according to the Wall Street Journal , which cites “people familiar with the matter.” The Journal says the company is seeking about $4.5 billion for the business, and has hired J.P. Possible buyers, the story notes, include private equity firms TPG and Silver Lake Partners , and other communications equipment companies, including Samsung , Huawei , Ericsson and Pace PLC . The division had sales last year of $10.1 billion. Q3 sales were about $2 billion , down 15% year over year. GAAP operating earnings for the units were $199 million, down from $263 million in the year-ago quarter.
The story noted that Motorola said in a statement that it doesn’t comment on rumors, but that it is committed to splitting into two businesses, mobile devices and broadband mobility solutions.
