Research In Motion: BMO Capital Cuts Rating, Trims Estimates

BMO Capital analyst Tim Long this afternoon cut his rating on Research In Motion (RIMM) to Market Perform from Outperform, chopping his price target on the stock to $64, from $100.
He also trimmed his EPS estimate for the February 2010 fiscal year to $4.13, from $4.21; for FY 2011 he goes to $4.66, from $5.10.
Long thinks the company is likely to lose market share at Verizon (VZ) , which he says accounts for about 30% of the company’s revenue, and where RIMM this year had an estimated 66% of all smart phone sales. He notes that Verizon is “clearly” promoting Android, “with a huge push” for the Motorola (MOT) Droid . The HTC Droid Eris “also seems to be getting fair promotion,” he notes. Long thinks the BlackBerry Storm 2 is an improvement over the original version, but that it lacks some features consumers want. The Tour is a “solid mid-to-high end device,” but he says that “trackball issues are limiting growth and ...

Find more top gadget news, videos, and blogs on GadgetBlips: Phones, Research In Motion, Verizon

RIMM: Auriga Launches With Hold Rating

Auriga USA analyst Chandan Sarkar this morning launched coverage of Research In Motion (RIMM) with a Hold rating and $66 price target, modestly above Friday’s close at $62.69.
On the one hand, Sarkar writes, “RIMM is well-positioned…to take advantage of the ongoing worldwide growth of smart phones - a market that…should grow significantly faster than the overall cell phone market as the spread of all-you-can-eat data pricing plans continues to drive the high end of that market.”
But he says that is counter balanced by increasing competitive pressure from Google , Apple , Windows Mobile and others.
“Thus, we consider the overall risk/reward ratio well-balanced in the current stock price,” he writes.
RIMM today is down 94 cents, or 1.5%, to $61.74.
