Apple killing Atom support, dreams of netbook hackintoshers in next Snow Leopard release?

Nobody said running a netbook hackintosh would be easy -- but nobody said they'd make it this hard. Apple is currently engaged in a ...
Apple breaking Atom chip support in 10.6.2?
Electronista | The Macintosh News Network —
Apple may have taken out support for Atom processors in its latest beta seed of Mac OS X 10.6.2, one user says. Those testing it claim Apple has changed support in a way that breaks compatibility with the small Intel chips, including their ability to enter sleep mode through an unofficial extension. If it reaches the final build, the move leaves those making "Hackintosh" systems with little choice either to stay with 10.6.1 or else to wait for an unofficial fix. It's not certain how deliberate the action may be, though Apple has little incentive to support Atom itself. The ...
Rumor: OS X update kills Intel Atom compatibility
Liliputing —
... It’s not clear whether this is an intentional move by Apple to discourage people from installing OS X on netbooks or if it’s just a side effect related to other changes. OS X 10.6.2 isn’t officially available yet, but it’s in the hands of some developers already, and according to StellaRolla, netbook hackintoshers may want to stick with version 10.6.1 when the update is available. If you’re using OS X Leopard 10.5.8, there’s a goo change you’ll want to hold off on updating to 10.5.9 when that update is out, as it’s likely to have ...
Snow Leopard Update Blocks Intel Atom, Kills Hackintoshes
Wired: Gadget Lab —
... The latest seed could change before being released as an actual update. But Stella knows what he’s talking about (he’s one of the guys behind the OSx86 method for easily installing the Mac OS on non-Apple machines), and recommends keeping your frankenmacs loaded with 10.6.1 for now.
This wouldn’t surprise us, especially as Apple seems to have gotten a taste for locking out unauthorized hardware with the Palm Pre cat and mouse game.

Snow Leopard 10.6.2 Breaks Intel Atom Hackintosh’s
Geeky-Gadgets —
... this version of Snow Leopard will no longer be compatible with Intel Atom processors.
In the current developer build of 10.6.2, Apple appears to have changed around a lot of CPU related information. One of the effects of this is Apple killing off Intel’s Atom chip.
It is not clear as yet whether this will be the case when Snow Leopard 10.6.2 goes live, I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

No More Hackintoshing?
Mobility Site —
... One blogger is stating that the new beta seed of Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard) no longer supports the Intel Atom chipset, used by almost all netbooks and notebooks customarily used for hackintoshing. Hackintoshing is the installation of the Mac OS on a piece of non-Apple hardware, such as a netbook. Users often claim that they do this because Apple thus far refuses to release a ultra-portable or netbook version of their popular MacBooks. Cupertino has never been amused but has turned a mostly blind eye to the practice…until now. ...
Oh noes! Snow Leopard update will de-Hackintosh Atom Hackintoshes
CrunchGear —
If you’ve installed OS X onto laptop with an Intel Atom processor, do not update your version of Snow Leopard until further notice. Rumor has it that Apple has removed Atom support from 10.6.2. This means your Hackintosh will fail unless you mess around with the kernel.
StellaRolla writes
Here are Atom users future options…
A) Stay with Leopard 10.5.8 (10.5.9 might have the same effect as 10.6.2)
B) Stay with Snow Leopard 10.6.1
C) Upgrade to 10.6.2 and use either the stock 10.0.0 kernel or use modded Snow ...
