... Packaging. Typically encased in oversized plastic clamshells to deter shoplifting, memory cards are then placed inside larger cardboard boxes for shipment to customers. Working with Transcend, Amazon has eliminated the hard-to-open clamshell and the need for an additional box. Instead, the cards will now ship inside recyclable cardboard envelopes which use less material. Amazon is working to shrink the envelope size even further.I am fine with this.

Amazon Kicks Off Frustration-Free Packaging Initiative

Starting today, Amazon has launched a new environmentally-friendly initiative called Frustration-Free Packaging. What that means is that we can get products in new, easy-to-open packaging that's delivered in a recyclable cardboard box — therefore eliminating the need for extra packaging and annoying plastic cases (that I can hardly open anyway).
Already, 19 products from companies like Microsoft, Transcend, and Fisher-Price are working with Amazon to use less packaging when their products are shipped. For instance, those tiny little memory cards will now ship in recyclable envelopes rather than big bulky boxes.

Amazon has just begun offering what they are calling “frustration-free packaging,” and I cannot think of anything else to do except offer some applause. I am sure that I am not alone here, just about everyone I know has experienced some issues with getting packages opened and cutting your hands or fingers. Thankfully, Amazon has decided to do something about it because not only is the packaging a pain to deal with, but I would venture a guess that a good amount of potentially recyclable plastic ends up with the regular trash.

You may have heard that Amazon has decided to some pretty amazing stuff with “Frustration Free” packaging with its 19 most popular items, moving away from plastic clamshells that might was as well be bullet proof. I have ranted on this before, and I think its fantastic that Amazon has gone — and is continuing — to go to lengths to find a solution to this problem: by going directly to manufacturers to help repackage these items that make sense.
Why hasn’t anyone else done this? Probably because Amazon is the only one who could.
