Android 1.5 coming to T-Mobile UK now, USA next week
Engadget —
And so it's finally confirmed: no consumers on un-hacked T-Mobile G1s in the US have this yet, but Android 1.5 and all its gooey, chocolatey Cupcake goodness will finally be hitting American units come late next week. Of course, you know how Android updates go -- they "roll" -- and not everyone is expected to get hooked up until the end of the month. Meanwhile, British G1 owners are getting updated as we speak -- so you might say they're getting back their American counterparts for launching the hardware afterwards. You know, what goes around, comes around. [Thanks, Shawn] Read - T-Mobile USA announcement Read - Android ...
Confirmed: Cupcake Update Arriving Next Week for T-Mobile G1 Users
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis —
Yet another tip of the cap to my bud David over at TMoNews. Earlier this evening he was running unconfirmed reports that the much anticipated ‘Cupcake’ update for Android G1 users on T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) would be coming early next week. Sure enough, after some sleuthing and after a post in the official T-Mobile forums, we can confirm Cupcake is indeed coming next week! The update will arrive randomly OTA to T-Mobile G1 customers. The official statement from the T-Mobile forums:
T-Mobile is delighted to announce the upcoming release of Android 1.5 with “Cupcake” coming soon to the T-Mobile ...
Android Cupcake SDK 1.5: T-Mobile UK Now, US next week
Phones Review —
A post over on forums.t-mobile has announced that while United Kingdom T-Mobile G1 owners are already gaining the Android 1.5 Cupcake update, T-Mobile G1 user in the United States can expect Android 1.5 to hit late next week.
Not everyone will get the Android 1.5 cupcake update all in one go as it will be rolled out over the air so it is expected every T-Mobile G1 owner will have Cupcake by the end of the month.
As a reminder, Android 1.5 Cupcake will include YouTube and Picasa uploads direct from the T-Mobile G1. Makes a change for us Brits to beat the Yanks at something doesn’t it, although I still haven’t gained Android 1.5. ...
T-Mobile USA confirm Android 1.5 Cupcake from next week
SlashGear —
We’ve already heard from multiple T-Mobile UK G1 users that their smartphones have been upgraded to Android OS 1.5 ‘Cupcake’ via an OTA update, but T-Mobile USA have decided to put out a news release confirming that it’s coming to the US too. As of the end of next week, G1 users will begin to find their handsets offering to update to the new firmware.
1.5 Cupcake brings with it the first official on-screen keyboard for Android (as seen on the HTC Magic and Samsung I7500), which should please those who’d like to use their G1 one-handed. It also updates the media functionality of the ...

Rollout of Android 1.5 ‘Cupcake’ Update Delayed Until Early June
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis —
Some sad (yet not really surprising) news today via the T-Mobile Forums. The folks at T-Mo have announced that the much anticipated release of the Android 1.5 ‘Cupcake’ update has been delayed at least another week… With the update now due to go out OTA in ‘early June’. The official word from T-Mobile (NYSE: DT):
We’d like to provide an update on the rollout of Android 1.5 for T-Mobile G1 customers. We are working diligently to get Android 1.5 out as soon as possible, while aiming to ensure a consistent, positive experience for our customers. We’re finalizing the build this week to ensure ...
T-Mobile USA delays Android 1.5 rollout by a few days
Engadget —
We knew it was too good to be true, eternal curmudgeonly pessimists that we are -- and sure enough, T-Mobile USA has put the kibosh on the start of its Android 1.5 rollout to G1 users. It seems that the build is still being "optimized" to "ensure optimal functionality and smooth delivery," which doesn't necessarily explain why T-Mobile UK users are already enjoying this stuff -- but then again, we're not the engineers and tech support folks that have to put up with the fallout from a failed launch. The carrier thinks everything will be delayed by about a week, which means that we're now looking at early June before everyone gets it. [Thanks to ...
No Cupcake For You! Not This Week
jkOnTheRun —
T-Mobile is teasing us with free Cupcake for our Android phones, but then pulling it away at the last minute. It seems it is taking a bit longer to finalize the 1.5 build (Cupcake) than previously thought, and it is being pushed back a week. We’ll all just have to wait another week, it seems, before we get the cool on-screen keyboard and video recording. ...

Android OS 1.5 Cupcake delayed by T-Mobile USA
SlashGear —
T-Mobile USA have backtracked on their Android OS 1.5 Cupcake launch, claiming the update still needs to be “finalized”. Cupcake has already begun distributing in the UK to owners of the T-Mobile G1, and T-Mobile USA users were promised that the OTA downloads would begin from the end of last week. Now, though, the carrier suggests it will be another week before their roll-out starts.
“G1 community,
We’d like to provide an update on the rollout of Android 1.5 for T-Mobile G1 customers.
We are working diligently to get Android 1.5 out as soon as possible, while aiming to ensure a ...
