Rumors fuel hopes for unibody 17-inch MacBook Pro
AppleInsider —
By Aidan Malley Published: 11:45 AM EST Last-minute claims would have Apple launching an update to its largest MacBook Pro model as early as Macworld -- and potentially with a crucial change to the computer's battery. Claiming to have Asian sources, 9 to 5 Mac alleges that a 17-inch MacBook Pro with the sturdier, unibody aluminum design is believed due at the trade event, whose show floor opens Tuesday. While a major revision of Apple's flagship portable has long been expected, the late rumor asserts that the company won't use the same panel-covered battery layout as with the 13-inch MacBook and 15-inch MacBook Pro. ...
17-inch Unibody MacBook Pro with fixed high-capacity battery at Macworld?
SlashGear —
It’ll come as no great surprise when Apple update their largest MacBook Pro, the 17-inch version, with a new unibody design similar to last year’s 15-inch refresh; however, according to the latest rumors, what will be a surprise is the new 17-inch Pro’s power options. 9to5mac claim that their Asian manufacturing sources are talking about a new, higher-capacity and super-slim battery for the big Pro, the downside of which will be that it’s non-user-removable.
That means along with the expected increase in battery life - no estimates are given, but the tipsters are saying ...
Rumor: 17-inch Apple MacBook Pro Finally Receiving Update, Better Battery [Rumor]
Gizmodo —
Word from Asia today is that the 17-inch MacBook Pro, which conspicuously lacked the aluminum update its smaller brethren and cousins received earlier this year, will finally receive its refresh at MacWorld—with a twist. The big news isn't the aluminum unibody construction—it's that the portable rig is getting a slimmer, more efficient battery. But, and this is a big (unconfirmed) but, the battery will apparently be inaccessible, a la the iPhone and iPod. What's the deal with that? Expect more at MacWorld, which may or may not have big or small ...
Macworld Won’t Be As Exciting As Last Year?
Technology - Channel Feed —
Somehow Macworld this year just doesn’t feel the same. With Phil Schiller set to deliver the keynote instead of Steve Jobs, the buzz around Macworld is less.
However Macworld is still Macworld. This is also Apple’s last participation in the expo and thus I hope that Apple goes out with a bang. Here are some news bits regarding Macworld.

Rumor: 17-inch MacBook Pro going unibody, no replaceable battery

... is due to lack of space. That’s certainly not true of the big 17-incher so I can’t believe that Apple would take the ability to augment battery life away from the mobile worker by fixing the battery in place like the iPhone. The rumor also states that Apple is going with a super new battery technology that will last much longer than those in the other MacBooks. Even so I will only have one word for the fixed battery rumor should it come to pass: FAIL.

Rumor: 17-inch Macbook Pro to get an update
Tech Ticker —
Rumormongers with their pre-Macworld rumors are making an effort for everyone to closely monitor the sans Steve Jobs expo. The word is that the 17-inch Macbook Pro will receive an update and will feature the touted aluminum unibody enclosure just like its smaller siblings.
The new 17-inch Macbook Pro is also rumored to have a non-removable, slim and a high capacity battery to give prolonged computing sessions. Better battery sounds nice, but non-removable is something we don’t want.

Make way for unibody 17-inch MacBook Pro?
Gizmo Watch —
... Macworld Expo beginning this week, wherein a new version of the Mac mini is also expected.
Apple is likely to introduce a 17-inch MacBook Pro, which like the earlier 13 and 15-inch models will share the same unibody construction, but will have a battery fixed in one place, unlike the removable battery in MacBook Air. Both Mini and the 17-inch MacBook Pro will be stuffed with chipsets from Nvidia, which were introduced to the MacBooks Q4 last year.
