Apple Multi-Touch Data Fusion Adds Camera, Voice, Force Sensors [Apple]
Gizmodo —
... The system even contemplates combining all this with accelerometers and force sensors, so the touch action can generate secondary data. One example of this may be applying a deformation effect to an image or a sound effect to a music track, giving it more or less strength depending on the force you use in your action. [USPTO via ...
Apple MultiTouch Fusion Patent mixes touch with voice & biometrics
SlashGear —
Apple has been granted a patent describing a system whereby multitouch input is augmented with input from other media, for instance voice control, facial expression or even biometric data. Entitled “Multi-Touch Data Fusion“, the patent explains a system where sensors could be built into, or around, a multitouch panel, measuring voice, temperature, vibration, light and more. A possible application of this could be manipulating an on-screen control (for instance a dial) while saying “color change”; the dial would therefore control the hue.
Alternatively, drawing or other media control could be simultaneously manipulated with touch and voice commands. In fig.10, the line (240) being drawn by the ...
Apple’s vision of future multi-touch includes voice, sight, finger-recognition

Leave it to the pioneers of multi-touch in the mobile space to apply for a patent on all future versions of multi-touch. Apple’s latest patent filing suggests that Cupertino is working to integrate more than just touch-based input modalities in to future versions of multi-touch.
The problem with the current multi-touch setup is that it’s tailored to touch-based mechanics alone. Multi-touch on the iPhone and iPhone 3G is goo for mechanical manipulation, but without complementary input modalities like voice or finger-recognition, the current multi-touch setup falls short of offering truly immersive user interaction.
Imagine trying to resize and rotate a picture while changing its color and inserting a bit of text. It ...
