[image] Here’s a rumor that seems plausible but I’m kind of cautious about reporting. Walmart is begging Apple to come and sell the iPhone at its stores. Apple might agree to this and cut a deal like it did with Best Buy. Of course, as I said, this is pure rumor. Apple isn't one to go creating special versions of its products for different retailers, but if it's looking to really take aim at the low-end customer, this could be a good way to do it. Maybe it'll be exclusive at Walmart for a time before becoming available elsewhere? Or maybe it won't be exclusive to Walmart at all. Or maybe it won't even exist. We'll know soon enough.

Just put the products out on the shelf at Wal-Mart complete with the security cord (maybe two) and stick the $99 price above. The lines are going to be huge. ... Since the Walmart shoppers are bargain hunters, or just down right poor, it’s a little more likely and at a price tag of just $99, half the price of the 8GB, it’s not that far fetched, especially since Best Buy sells the iPhone.
Walmart or Costco, someones getting a cheaper iPhone if Apple wants to become the number one provider of smartphones in the US, or perhaps even China (this would only apply to a Walmart scenario).

... comes from a tipster who tipped off Boy Genius Report. However it does lead to some speculation, as we all know Apple dropped the 4GB version of the Apple iPhone form their initial line-up and back then it had a price tag of £399.
But if this is true, and it does become available for $99, I think many more will be purchasing an Apple iPhone, especially if they are not too bothered about massive storage. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what develops.
