Asus Smatbook to Sell for $180
PMP Today —
...
Good news once more for the computing public. Asustek, the pioneer of cheap netbooks, is planning to launch an even cheaper Smartbook in the first quarter of 2010. This smartbook was shown at Computex with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Though we would be more excited with a dual core netbook, Asus is obviously keen on lowering the market price again of ultraportables. I wonder what Asus would call the smartbook… Smart Eee?

Asus going to launch a smartbook after all
CrunchGear —
... a smartbook product sometime during 1Q2010.
This is a dramatic about face from what was stated previously, I wonder is Asus perhaps underestimated the demand for small, lightweight, Android based products when they made their previous statements. Mr. Shen also said that Asus R&D has been working quite hard, and we should expect to see quite a few new products from them in the next 6 months. Asustek’s first smartbook is expected to retail for about $180.

ASUS' Android-based 'secret weapon' smartbook launching in Q1
Engadget —
... was it pressure from Wintel, we never can tell? Then yesterday, ASUS' Jerry Shen pulled an about-face at an investor meeting in Taipei with talk of launching a $180 smartbook in Q1 of 2010. Bristling with confidence, Shen goes so far as to call it a "secret weapon" in a category offering potential for huge, Eee PC-like growth. Well, with the first big-name smartbooks just starting to ship, even a dozen or so sales could be considered statistically significant.

Asus to launch a $180 smartbook in early 2010
Liliputing —
... this summer before deciding it wasn’t ready for the world to see and hiding it away.
The prototype was based on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor which enables long battery life, and integrated GPS, 3G, WiFi, and graphics capabilities. But it’s not at all clear whether the upcoming Asus product will be built on the same platform as the early prototype.
Shen says the new device will run about NT 6,000 which is roughly $184 US.

ASUS Smartbook Confirmed for 2010 — Around $180
jkOnTheRun —
... ASUS, creator of the EEE PC and thus the netbook craze, had embraced producing a smartbook at one time, only to back off in subsequent statements about the possibility. CEO Jerry Shen has ended the speculation with a recent statement that the Taiwanese company will produce a smartbook for release in the first quarter of 2010, for a price equivalent to about $180. ...
ASUS Smartbook to Launch Q1 2010
Gadget Venue —
... will be included along with other application that could be downloaded.
Although a few months ago ASUS were heard to say that there is no future for Smartbooks, it seems that there has been a major u-turn on this as the boss boldly expects sales to go very well.
It will be an interesting year if Smartbooks do follow the success of netbooks although I’m not too optimistic myself, that perhaps might change if Chrome OS is installed on one of the devices.
