ASUS CEO Confirms EE Phone, to run Android?

... let slip of what he called an EE Phone, which would potential control all of these interfaces. When it comes to low-cost technology, it doesn’t get much cheaper than free, and that’s what Android is. It’s not like we haven’t heard of the possibility of such a handset coming out in March, or that ASUS has been giving Android some fresh looks. We really could use a few more Android manufacturers, that’s for sure.

... and during iad interview, apparently Jonney Shih, AsusTek’s CEO let slip about an Asus mobile phone.
Jonney Shih let slip mention of what he named the EE Phone, a mobile phone which would potentially control all of the futures TV interfaces.
So bearing this in mind, will we actually be seeing an Android based EE Phone coming from Asus? No further mention was made of an EE Phone, but one does wonder if Asus is in the midst of developing such a beast.

... this new smartphone will run Android, an industry favorite right now. Android can keep the cost of the phone down since it does not charge licensing fees. With the inclusion of this phone, it will enhance the Asus cell phone lineup, which up until now has mostly included Windows Mobile smartphones in Asian markets. When this phone will be released and the exact price is still a mystery, but guesses are that it will be out within the first half of 2009.

Asus confirms Eee Phone

... Phone rumors have been finally put to rest by the main man himself, Jonney Shih. In an interview with NYTimes, he confirmed about the ongoing development of a low cost Eee phone. The phone however, will not just be another product with an Eee sticker but it will revolve around the Eee line of products, giving users the freedom to control them. He did not divulge any more details but the phone is expected to run on Android and release in the first half of this year.

... The very next smartphone Garmin-Asus plans to launch will not be an Android phone, negating the "Eee Phone" talk recently coming out of the Asus camp. Rather, it will be a phone running another "major platform." I am guessing that means Windows Mobile, but there's no telling which version, 6.1, 6.5 or 7. It will be revealed at Mobile World Congress (formerly known as 3GSM) next month. ...
