Asus expects $200 Eee PC Netbook in 2009
I4U News — ... Currently other netbook vendors gain better reviews at least in the U.S., but Asus anyway has most of its revenue coming from Europe (53%) and Asia Pacific (36%). This would leave only 11% maximum for North America. This is surprisingly low, but shows how much sales growth potential Asus still has in North America. Asus revealed that currently 70% of shipped netbooks have a HDD and only 30% feature the SSD storage alternative. Windows XP is outselling Linux 7:3. More details on Digitimes . ASUS predict $200 Eee PC netbook in 2009; focusing on 10-inch models
SlashGear — ... ASUS president Jerry Shen has been doing some more netbook soothsaying, as the company announces its Q3 2008 financial performance.  Of most interest to us is the double-whammy that Shen predicts a $200 Eee PC sometime in 2009, as well as the phasing out of 7 and 8.9-inch models in favor of more 10-inch netbooks.  That way, the president believes, ASUS will be able to take a full 30-percent of the netbook market next year, estimated at between 6 and 7.5 million units. ...

Ooohhhh: $200 Eee PCs Next Year? [NetBooks]
Gizmodo — ... On a recent earnings call, Asus explained some of their plans going into 2009. The big one? The company expects to have a $200 entry level Eee PC—which we assume has no Windows. But that $200 announcement is even more interesting when coupled with another announcement—Asus intends to phase out all 7" and 8.9" models for 10" netbooks. So will the smaller systems go for $200, or will we see a $200 10" netbook in 2009? I guess we'll have to wait to find out. [Digitimes] ...

ASUS: $200 Eee PC in 2009
Engadget — ... phased out of the market to be replaced by 10-inch models. Although that sounds like it opens the possibility for a 10-inch Eee PC for $200 we're not counting on it. Shen also noted that 70% of all Eee PCs are now loaded with XP and hard disk drives compared to 30% with Linux and SSDs. Microsoft, you win again. Asus plans a $200 Eee PC in 2009
jkOnTheRun — ... We've heard this before in the market, but I suspect this time a $200 netbook will become a reality. Watch for it in 2009 says Asus president, Jerry Shen by way of DigiTimes. I'd expect a netbook costing two bills will be a fairly bare-bones unit with minimal SSD storage and run some variance of Linux but for many this will be a great deal. Then again, the pricing between some Linux netbooks and those with an XP license is a scant $20 so I could be wrong on the OS. ...

Want a $200 Eee PC? You only have to wait till next year
CrunchGear — Asus plans to release a $200 Eee PC sometime in 2009, according to Jerry Shen, the company’s president. That’s on top of the company’s plans to release a touchscreen Eee PC in 2009. Might we be looking at, finally, the year of the netbook? One can only dream. While I’m quick to discount netbooks as hallow attempts to bilk you good people out of your money, thereby shoring up these companies’ bottom lines in otherwise dismal economic times, the thought of a $200 almost-laptop is pretty impressive. Who ...

ASUS to launch the $200 Eee laptop
T3.com All — ... is planning on ditching 7-inch and 8.9-inch laptops, we can safely say it will be a 10-inch model, not a million miles from the original concept. One thing is for sure - it's unlikely to make a dent in the ASUS coffers. According to company reports, ASUS made a profit of $6.38 billion in the third quarter of this year, $19.25 billion over the year. Around 6 million notebooks have been shipped in the past year, with that number expected to jump to 20 million in 2009. ASUS (via Digitimes ) Related links:

Asus Going for $200 Eee PC in 2009
Wired: Gadget Lab — Netbooks are going to get a lot cheaper if Taiwanese computer maker Asustek has its way. The company plans to offer a $200 Eee PC next year, Jonney Shih, chairman of Asus told DigiTimes. It's part of the company's plan to get a 30% market share in the netbook segment with shipments of 6 million to 7.5 million units. Along the way, Asus will phase out the 7-inch and 8.9-inch Eee PCs and replace them with 10-inch screen products, says Shih. Asus shipped about 1.7 million units in the third quarter and expects to ...
