... We've heard this before in the market, but I suspect this time a $200 netbook will become a reality. Watch for it in 2009 says Asus president, Jerry Shen by way of DigiTimes. I'd expect a netbook costing two bills will be a fairly bare-bones unit with minimal SSD storage and run some variance of Linux but for many this will be a great deal. Then again, the pricing between some Linux netbooks and those with an XP license is a scant $20 so I could be wrong on the OS. ...

Netbooks are going to get a lot cheaper if Taiwanese computer maker Asustek has its way.
The company plans to offer a $200 Eee PC next year, Jonney Shih, chairman of Asus told DigiTimes.
It's part of the company's plan to get a 30% market share in the netbook segment with shipments of 6 million to 7.5 million units.
Along the way, Asus will phase out the 7-inch and 8.9-inch Eee PCs and replace them with 10-inch screen products, says Shih.
