Apple's iPhone advert banned
T3.com All — ... need to book a slot longer than the traditional 30 seconds. The company is pleading innocence, claiming the 'really fast' line was in comparison to the previous 2G model, as well as highlighting its 'Network performance will vary by location' disclaimer on the screen. Apple also pointed out that 'the average consumer' would realise the phone's performance would vary. The 17 people who successfully complained might want to think about that last statement. Apple forced to drop misleading iPhone ads
Tech Digest — ... was anything but fast, and that the TV advert had misled them. The ad, if you've not seen it, goes on and on about how the iPhone 3G is 'really fast', and shows maps and news sites appearing in milliseconds. 3G's good, but even in central London it's not that good. Apple, therefore, will not be able to broadcast the advert again in its current state. No word whether a new version of the ad will include 20-second 'loading' pauses and random Safari crashes. UK smacks Apple for another misleading iPhone commercial
Engadget — We figured Apple would've learned its lesson after the UK's Advertising Standards Authority banned those "the real internet" iPhone commercials, but it looks like Steve's back in detention -- the ASA just ruled that another ad claiming that the iPhone is "really fast" is also misleading enough to be pulled. You've probably seen the similar US version of the ad, which shows the iPhone 3G loading a web page, switching to Maps to locate itself, downloading an attachment, and then finally taking a call, all in 30 seconds -- yeah, that doesn't happen. Apple claimed that ...

UK perspective on Apple’s Ad ban
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis — ... James wrote a great post a coupla days back on the banning of one of Apple’s Ads in the UK. It was covered quite extensively in the UK by The Guardian, and also the BBC. So now it’s time for the UK office of IntoMobile to weigh in (with considerable weight!!), and say - actually, the Ad IS kinda misleading. Picking up on a comment “mdk” made on James’ article, my feeling also is that the problem isn’t with the “really fast” statement (as such) - because O2’s 3G (on ...

iPhone ad ruled "misleading" in the UK
Popgadget: Personal Tech for Women — ... a modified version of the ad which makes clear that the speed and performance of the smartphone will vary from how it appears onscreen. My take is that the iPhone is impressive on its own, no need to exaggerate its abiilties. The whole farrago raises an interesting issue though - when you see a gadget ad, do you expect it to act like that in real life, or do you acknowledge that the user experience has been streamlined (and possibly exaggerated) for TV?
