pac-man mini portable: get in my pocket!

... Dug.
The only thing left out of the portable console is a sound system. That’s because those Namco “arcade on a chip” systems that run those Jakks systems don’t offer the exact same sounds that the original versions played, and Sam is clearly an arcade purist.
Sure, I suppose Sam could have just gone an grabbed a copy of Namco Museum for the Nintendo DS, GBA or Sony PSP, but what fun would that have been?

Pac-Man Mini Plays All The Classic Hits
GEARFUSE —
... button and a high score list. Modder Sam Thornley yearned for portable classics like the Atari Flashback , so he made his own. Using a Jakks Pacific plug-and-play Namco mini arcade ’s guts and some hardware know-how, Sam melded the circuit board with a tiny 2.5-inch LCD display and powered the whole thing with a set of 4 rechargeable AA batteries. It includes Pac-Man , Galaxian , Rally-X , Bosconian and even Dig Dug . Yes, even Dig Dug, my deity . Link ( via )

... the remote detonation of nuclear warheads than a game console. but modder Sam Thornley's Portable Pac-Man Mini takes one of those old Namco emulator joysticks you plug and play into any old television and melds it with a tiny 2.5-inch LCD powered by 4 rechargeable AA batteries. That D-Pad isn't very good — perhaps he's trying to duck patent litigation — but the doodad can play Galaxian, Rally-X, Bosconian and Dig Dug. Because it's there!

Make Your Own Portable Atari Game
OhGizmo! —
... not too bad with a soldering iron, then you could just make your own handheld Atari console.
Someone has done exactly that, and provided some good documentation on how to create one yourself. You’ll need a Namco TV Games controller, along with a 2.5-inch screen and a few other parts. Being handy with a soldering iron probably wouldn’t hurt either. It looks like a fun project, and with a bit of work, you could probably come up with a nicer looking case.

The PACMAN Mini: Portable Namco Games
MAKE Magazine —
I really like this project, although I immediately thought it should be called "Pac Man Portable" or PMP.
This portable took around two weeks to build. I left it with out sound support because the sounds that the namco "arcade pcb on a chip" produces aren't as good as the original games. The case is an just a general project box with holes cut for the screen, buttons etc.
