Is The Crunchpad Dead? [Rumor]
Gizmodo —
The Silicon Alley Insider has heard that Mike Arrington's vision of an affordable Crunchpad web tablet is dying due to higher-than-expected costs. The fact is that the timeline for the Crunchpad thus far reads like a vaporware gadget or the financially-challeged launch of the OLPC project. First, the Crunchpad was $200, then it became $300, then there was supposed to be an announcement in July or August. Of course, that never happened, but another summertime rumor placed the launch in November for $400. That was months ago—and ...

Michael Arrington's CrunchPad still not available, maybe never will be?

It looks like the CrunchPad has been killed by higher than expected costs
Gadgetell —
... story we heard from a few people on a recent trip to California is that the CrunchPad is supposedly being delayed—perhaps indefinitely—by increasing expenses.
Of course, there was that one rumor that suggested the CrunchPad would be released in November for around $400, and hey, November is not yet over so maybe we will see it hit the market after all.
Bottom line, it does not seem to be looking good. That said, I still want one.

Is CrunchPad dead?
PCLaunches.com —
... 2008, he was aiming for a $200 price tag. In April, 2009, when he already had some prototypes built, he said "you can sell it for $300 and probably not go out of business." In July, he told the New York Times it would cost "less than $300." That may no longer be possible."
As for my personal opinion, I wish the CrunchPad comes soon and sticks to its original pricing target of around $300. Because if that's going to cost more then it would be difficult selling it.

Web 2.0 cheerleader Michael Arrington’s inexpensive web tablet CrunchPad may be in mortal danger.
Higher-than-expected costs and repeated delays could mean the end of the project, says Silicon Alley Insider.
Arrington has said earlier the CrunchPad will be ready this year “for sure.” But the device has already missed a number of deadlines. It was last expected at the end of July or early August.
Arrington first wrote about the idea of a touchscreen tablet in June last year. He talked of a touchscreen device that would run ...
CrunchPad hindered by higher than expected costs?
Tech Ticker —
... Michael Arrington’s CrunchPad gave hopes for a decent looking (and functioning) tablet on the cheap but according to Silicon Alley Insider that hope looks quite bleak. They’ve heard from several sources that CrunchPad is delayed or dead due to increasing expenses. ...
Where is Arrington’s CrunchPad?
Zatz Not Funny! —
... Rumors reported by Silicon Alley Insider last week indicate that TechCrunch Michael Arrington’s Linux-based CrunchPad web browsing tablet has gone into hibernation. Perhaps due to higher than anticipated production expenses. Arrington had promised “a big announcement” during the summer months… which never materialized. So something’s definitely up. And I expect it’s the realization that launching a gadget, versus web, startup requires a much more significant investment of capital along with additional risk. And, ...
