D700 Shoots Video
A couple of nights ago I saw this post on CanonRumors. I thought to myself… that’s so obvious! I filed the thought away after that, and planned to forget about it. The next day I noticed a wave of news about updated remote-control software by a 3rd party (i.e. not Nikon). That got me ...

Video: D700 video hack
CrunchGear — ... The good news is that this hack by Olivier Giroux works. You can run it over USB and it sends out about 30 usable frames per second of JPEGs at somewhat less than VGA resolution. I guess that last part could be considered bad news. ...

Video Recording with the Nikon D700
Wired: Gadget Lab — ... The feed travels over the wire at 100fps (I measured), within which maybe 30fps’ worth are unique frames.  Each frame is basically a NEF embedded thumbnail, each one is a fully-formed high quality JPEG file.  The result has the potential to look as good (or bad) as a DVD, roughly. This isn't going to be a replacement for a real video camera, but if Olivier gets around to releasing the software, it should certainly be fun to play around with. HD Video on the Nikon D700 (almost)
Kineda — One feature that I covet from the Canon 5D Mark II, is the ability to record HD video. The Nikon D700 is a fantastic full frame, but a video function would’ve made it that much better. With a few tweaks of Nikon’s SDK, it seems likes HD video might not be too far fetched after all. Take a look at the sample videos below. Although not quite HD yet, I’m sure the Nikon hackers will figure it out soon enough. Nikon D700 Video Samples

Record video with Nikon D700 and Canon Liveview EOS
MAKE Magazine — ... Olivier hasn't yet released his code, but the Nikon SDK is available for download and you can take a hack at it yourself while you're waiting. It seems like it shouldn't be too long before there's a more official convergence between digital camera and digital video technology. It's all roughly the same optical technology. Why do we need two separate devices, with all their separate lenses and add-on equipment to record both still and moving images? Nikon D700 gets tweaked to shoot video via live-view
Engadget — ... Some Canon die-hards have already managed to coax their DSLRs to record video via live-view, and it looks like Nikon aficionados are now able to do the same, albeit not quite as easily just yet. That's because the mod requires both access to Nikon's SDK for the ...

This clunky little workaround will let you shoot video with the Nikon D700. In fact, it will work for any camera which can pump a live video stream into a computer. It has nothing to do with the rather nice, and rather higher definition hack we covered earlier today, but it will let you ...
