Esquire's E-Ink Cover Hits Newsstands, Blinking Disappointment [Media]
Gizmodo — ... to you, or a taster of the way things may go in the future: whichever camp you sit in, you can check it out now as it's hit the newsstands. Over at TheDastardlyReport they've got hold of one, and show its subtle-contrasted goodness in this video. Check out that blinking! It's awesome vaguely disappointing... or am I the only one to think so? Now, if it were a proper dot-matrix affair then I'd be tempted to buy the mag, assuming I could find one of the limited-edition copies. But that's just me, and YMMV. Over to you in the comments. Video: Esquire E-Ink Cover Disappoints
Wired: Gadget Lab — ... text. Inside, the magazine's sponsor, Ford, has similarly defaced a regular print-ad with a rectangle of mis-matched colors. The "moving" car picture we were expecting turns out to be nothing more than a blinking highlight which moves in three stages across the image. Way to go, Esquire. If you want to fight off the inevitable death of the print magazine at the hands of the internet, don't do it by emulating the worst aspect of the web -- Flash banner ads. Esquire e-ink cover a pathetic disappointment
Boing Boing Gadgets — ... dash of class. Compare Rob's gorgeous, tasteful mock-up to the finished product. The blood boils. Asked to come up with the first e-ink paper cover, Esquire's designers responded to the challenge like a 14 year old publishing their first Geocities webpage... winking emoticon and all! Pathetic, Esquire. This is why print journalism is dying: dragged kicking and screaming into the present, you mistake the future for ten years in the past. Esquire October 2008 E-Ink Issue! Esquire E Ink magazine cover
Gadgetell — ... a milestone for e-paper.  I remember back in the eighties when National Geographic started using holograms on their covers.  Other glossies caught on and In the nineties, Sports Illustrated had their famed “Athlete of the Decade” with a cover featuring Michael Jordan as a hologram. So, perhaps this Esquire cover will be a prophecy as they say “The 21st Century Begins Now”.  Let’s see if other magazines will catch on.  Read [The Dastardly Report] Full Story ...

Esquire Mag Goes E-ink (video)
GadgetReview — Back To the Future 2 technology is upon us!  Course, E-ink has been around for a few years to say the least, but this is first time we’ve seen it integrated in something so expendable.  Hit the video to see live animation on the cover of Esquire magazine!  Notably, there’s also an ad on the inside cover animated in E-ink.  Sick!
