Over at TheDastardlyReport they've got hold of one, and show its subtle-contrasted goodness in this video. Check out that blinking! It's awesome vaguely disappointing... or am I the only one to think so? Now, if it were a proper dot-matrix affair then I'd be tempted to buy the mag, assuming I could find one of the limited-edition copies. But that's just me, and YMMV. Over to you in the comments. ... text. Inside, the magazine's sponsor, Ford, has similarly defaced a regular print-ad with a rectangle of mis-matched colors. The "moving" car picture we were expecting turns out to be nothing more than a blinking highlight which moves in three stages across the image.
Way to go, Esquire. If you want to fight off the inevitable death of the print magazine at the hands of the internet, don't do it by emulating the worst aspect of the web -- Flash banner ads.

... dash of class. Compare Rob's gorgeous, tasteful mock-up to the finished product. The blood boils. Asked to come up with the first e-ink paper cover, Esquire's designers responded to the challenge like a 14 year old publishing their first Geocities webpage... winking emoticon and all!
Pathetic, Esquire. This is why print journalism is dying: dragged kicking and screaming into the present, you mistake the future for ten years in the past.

... a milestone for e-paper. I remember back in the eighties when National Geographic started using holograms on their covers. Other glossies caught on and In the nineties, Sports Illustrated had their famed “Athlete of the Decade” with a cover featuring Michael Jordan as a hologram.
So, perhaps this Esquire cover will be a prophecy as they say “The 21st Century Begins Now”. Let’s see if other magazines will catch on.
