Examples of types of surfaces that you can start out on are styrene plastic (front of CD-ROM jewel box) or the clear plastic in cheap picture frames. According to Beaty, “scratch holograms can be made on CD cases using a couple of thumbtacks poked through a stick.” Once you’ve mastered that, you can go pro with a professional compass and black painted polycarbonate.
