HP Unleashes New Netbook With Two Flavors
GEARFUSE — ... install that HP is calling the “MIE OS.” MIE stands for Mobile Internet Experience and essentially, it presents you with a bunch of commonly used apps and tasks that looks like an HP TouchSmart PC. Not bad. XP is also available for those looking to go a little more mainstream. The XP version of the Mini 1000 is available today for $399 with 512MB of RAM and an 8GB SSD with the 8.9-inch screen. CrunchGear — The HP MIni 1000 launched here in the States yesterday, and the Compaq division quietly announced a nearly identical re-branded netbook for the UK market. The Compaq MIni 700 has the same 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, along with the same HDD and SDD options, but ships with a 10.2 1,024 x 600 (16:10) display, optional HSDPA radio, and a £299 price. That price happens to be £100 less than the HPs Mini 1000 10.1, 16:9 display and the Compaq model ships in mid-December rather than HPs late-January slated launch. No word on if the MIE Linux OS ...
