Intel Buys Netbook.com

Intel bought Netbook.com last week and will most likely turn it into a portal for Atom-powered netbooks. Intel is working to define the space as there's some debate about which computers should even be called "netbook".

jkOnTheRun — It appears the term "netbook" must be official with the report that Intel, maker of the Atom processor that appears in most mini-notebooks, has purchased the domain netbook.com. If you go to netbook.com it takes you to a page where Intel is promoting the Atom processor: What I find amazing is that the netbook domain was free for grabbing, or if not how much Intel paid for it? SlashGear — ... as many Linux based netbooks are returned to retailers than versions running Windows XP Home; while that may say more about expectations of OS, it also says that buyers need educating as to what compromises are made when a low-cost device is bought. Those compromises can include an unfamiliar open-source OS or relatively under-powered hardware.  Hopefully Intel’s portal will address that and create more realistic expectations as to what a netbook can offer.
