Intel to debut Moorestown platform in 2010
Gizmo Watch — ... for smaller devices. The chip, according to Intel, will consume 10 times less power when at standby mode when compared with the Atom chips presently being used in smaller devices. Based on the company’s Lincroft System-on-chip platform, Moorestown will include an Atom microprocessor core and a memory controller hub. Intel Ups the Atom Ante: Claims They’re For MIDs

The Atom processor is the standard chipset for netbooks but in the announcement Intel made it clear these new chips are aimed at Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs). Intel is apparently not going to give up on the MID genre, even though it hasn’t seen any real action. Intel is the obvious leader in processors for netbooks, and the new Atoms are just furthering their lead.  NVIDIA, ARM, AMD and Via are still working on their chips, which may prove more interesting than the Atom chips, but it might take a lot of work for anyone to take the netbook crown from Intel and the Atom.
