It Lives! Gadget Lab's Netbook Running OS X Leopard
Yesterday, we covered the MSI Wind clone from Medion, the Akoya. The little netbook turned out to be a wonder, albeit with a few flaws. The one thing that would make it better? OS X. When I mentioned the plan in yesterday's post, the comments covered all the usual flamewar bases. My favourite: ...

Gadget Lab installs OS X on the Wind, says it runs better than XP
Boing Boing Gadgets — ... basically as easy as downloading a package and preparing a USB thumb drive — but Charlie's observations on performance: All in all, it actually runs OS X a lot faster than XP. That's almost unfathomable to me: the latest versions of Leopard run like a hobbled, bipedal hog even on my first-gen MacBook Pro. But if true, that's simply Holy Grail: I can deal with a third-party WiFi program and a dead headphone jack for a paperback sized Mac. It Lives! The cheapest Macbook is a $499 MSI Wind
Ubergizmo — ... cute, white, somewhat shiny and could be a great Macbook alternative - if it had Mac OS X on it. That's the idea behind this "mod" that you can attempt at your own risk. The idea is to install a hacked version of OSX from a USB drive (there's no optical drive on the Wind). The end result? a 10" Mac-compatible computer that costs 3.6 times less than the MacBook Air. Ah and that's not it: it's been reported that Mac OS X runs faster than XP on this partcular "mod". Gadget lab article How-to instructions on the MSI Wind forums ...

OS X on an MSI Wind
Krunker — ... What do you when you want a low-cost OS X notebook? Install OS X on a netbook of course! That’s what the folks at Wired.com’s Gadget Lab did with an MSI Wind netbook. They took a distribution of OS X (containing the necessary drivers for the MSI Wind) and installed the OS right on the netbook itself. Sure some components failed to work but overall, you’ve got yourself an inexpensive OS X based system as a result. Pretty nifty! So who else will try this out? ...
