[image] The Wall Street Journal has jumped on the mobile content bandwagon and released an application for the iPhone . The financial newspaper set the price point at free -- ironic, given that the Journal 's online content comes at a price of $103 per year, or $140 for the print edition. The application looks and feels a lot like The New York Times iPhone app , replete with screen-hogging advertisements; headlines; editor's picks; and browsing capabilities for the newspaper's various categories. The Wall Street Journal has joined the iPhone App crowd by releasing their very own title in the App Store. The app joins the BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) application that was released last August.
The Wall Street Journal for iPhone delivers exactly what you would expect… Pop it open to view ‘what’s news’, with buttons to easily navigate between articles, video and WSJ radio. Category buttons at the bottom allow you to easily navigate to market news, editors’ picks, saved articles and more. Não sei se você sabe, mas o The Wall Street Journal é um dos poucos grandes portais de conteúdo online que não só fecha seu conteúdo para quem é cadastrado, como também (ainda?) cobra por ele. E caro! — US$103/ano pela versão online, US$140/ano pela impressa.
Na contramão desse próprio modelo, a Dow Jones (dona da publicação) lançou nesta quarta-feira um aplicativo para iPhones/iPods touch que dá acesso a todo esse conteúdo de graça. Brecha proposital ou não, o fato é que a coisa funciona. ;-)
